I made two of these cakes yesterday. One to enjoy now and one safely tucked away in the freezer for Christmas. The recipe is in Nigella's Christmas book that is only published in the UK. I was reading on some website about the book and that this chocolate cake was in it.
I knew that Mandy, The Vintage Kitten's wonderful husband had just bought her the book so I asked her if it was in fact in it. She gratefully offered to send it to me. Well since the measurements are in grams, etc. She also sent me little "Mandy notes for Judy" so I would succeed.
It is a very rustic looking cake (thank goodness I knew that) so I wasn't upset when it cracked a little and then I kind of dropped off some of the sides taking it off the springform pan. And yes, I ate them. The second one came out a lot better. I guess practice makes perfect!!!
I took good notes for the first one so the second one was a lot easier too. I have a small scale and have decided I really need a better one. But for my first try I'm happy. And now with all of Mandy's notes (which I'm keeping for future use), I may try more recipes. It was definitely a learning experience and I think I succeeded. A special thanks to Mandy, I couldn't have done it without you. OK I'm going to go eat cake now. I wish you were here to have some with me. But since you aren't I'll just have a piece for you too!!

Thank you for stopping by and leaving such a nice comment about my papercuttings! You are very kind!
I am a really big fan of Nigella! I just love reading her cookbooks, she always mays me laugh, and I love her food! I have collected all of her cookbooks that are printed here in the US. So....if you ever feel like sharing some of the UK recipes, I'd love it! : )
Thanks again,
La Donna
Mmmmm! That looks yummy!! Yes, have a piece for me, and I'll have the coffee!
Ha! My human verification word for this time was "cakeedr" -- Cakee dr!
I am a huge Nigella fan, only wish they'd give her more tv time, instead of those same old tired shows they endlessly show on the food channel! The cake looks delish!
That looks mouth wateringly good!!
This cake looks incredible. Is it moist and gooey in the middle like it looks?
Hi Judy...YAY you made it. I wish I could have tasted it. Nigellas looked rustic too so I think it has turned out how it should have. Ive been reading through the book and Im going to try some of the recipes over Christmas (I will post the results if my attempts are any good) The xmas tv series was shown in 2006 and I tried to make her gingerbread stuffing from writing down the ingredients but I had to guess alot of the quantities and it wasnt very nice, but now I have the book with the correct amounts so Im going to try again this year. It seems daft that the book was published so long after the tv programme which is being repeated at the moment on the UK TV Food channel. I am turning off my comments for a little while just over xmas but feel free to email me. P.S. Izzy had her after care check up and she is doing fine X
Goodness...I am so going to have to run MORE :)
I'm going to admit I have no clue who that is but that cake looks good!
I cant wait to hear how it was..rustic looking is good for me because many times i make things they fall apart so i would feel good about this one!
I have heard that making cakes is tricky, but have never tried one myself (except for Hershey's chocolate cake, which is pretty simple). Did you save me a piece? ;)
Thank you for the adorable towel set! So cute and christmas-y. It is already in use!

Judy,
The cake looks wonderful. I have turned away from recipes using the metric system, in the past. Thinking it would be too difficult.
You are a great chef.

Sometimes I wonder if all you do is cook and bake! You put me to shame with all your wonderful yummy food photos. I'm a buy it in a box and spend all my free time in the garden kind of gal!

Yum, yum that looks terrific ! I love cake and a big glass of ice cold milk to go with it !
Hi Judy,
I sure came by on the right day. I LOVE Nigella Lawson. I've got all of her cookbooks but the Italian one that's out of print. The cake looks beautiful and how great you have one waiting in the freezer too. Yum! That's so nice that Mandy put little notes in it for you - really sweet!

Lookin' pretty yummy Judy! I can't do the weighing thing -- I guess I'm and old dog who can't learn new tricks. I just convert the weights to measurements and carry on LOL!
Looks fabulous. I love rustic. Don't you just love the Vintage Kitten?? Her blog is so much fun to read. I would love to have dinner at her home someday including the cocktails. ~ Lynn
You won the tatted snowflake drawing (everyone who had posted did :) ) If you send me your address will get the Dec. one off to you :) Have a happy day :)

Judy,
We are in the middle of a blizzard today. How about you, in your neck of the woods?
Melissa
We've been hit with the crazy snow, wind, freezing temps... That would be okay if I didn't have my Christmas shopping to do, YIKES!
Our heater can't keep up with the plummeting temps, that's where the hot flashes come in handy. I've got my my own personal built in heater.LOL! I hope you're warm and toasty in front of a fireplace. Cuddled up with your kitty's and Jack! ;O
Sweet Holiday Wishes,
Sara
Thanks for stopping by sweetie !
Looks delicious!
Judy,
Happy Baking and stay in and warm.
Melissa
This Christmas season has me in a tizzy! I was here. I read your post, but forgot to comment! Like I said, I am in a tizzy! Your cake does look delicious! I have been baking cookies, but all of that is done now except for a few gingerbread men. It is just not Christmas without gingerbread men. It goes WAY back.
We did have some snow last night but not enough to hinder anyone. At night the temperatures drop then the roads get icy, but I stay home. =)
Hope you are having a great week!
Hugs,
Cheryl
Judy,
You are so sweet. I'm feeling okay. I think I will probably spend the rest of my life on Miralax, but hey, I can live with that.
I hope all is well with you.
Melissa
